In the fall of 2018 our church went through the series “Thriving in the City”. We talked about the power of our story, the power of God in us, His handiwork, mission in our workplace, mission in our homes. We went through a series that helped us remember that God’s power is in US. His Holy Spirit is alive in US. We just need to step into it, we just need to proclaim it, and we just need to live in it!
On December 6, 2018 little James Aston went in for a simple surgery on his eyes. The doctor had just finished coming to tell Ben & Rebs that everything was ok, when moments later James went into cardiac arrest which eventually put him on life support.
As a church we wept and prayed with Ben and Rebs, but we also had this moment of realization. We know that God’s power and authority is inside each of us, the same power that raises the dead to life, makes the lame walk and opens blind eyes. That power is in us. So as a church we decided: now is the time to step up.
So as a church we surrounded that hospital with prayer. For 24 hours straight there was someone at that hospital praying for mountains to be moved and battles to be won for little James. We fought with the only weapon we could use in that moment. Prayer. Over the next few days James’ health improved and doctors who had told Rebs there was no hope for James marvelled. God was on display. The mountains were moved, and James was able to go home. HALLELUJAH!!!!
And this is how ‘Come on Heart’ was birthed. So with my friends Luke and Hailey, we crafted this song. It’s a call for God’s people to rise up in faith. Rooted deep in every believer is the power of Jesus’ promise: to speak and see mountains move. Nothing is impossible. (Matthew 17:20). We know that when God speaks His word it never returns unfulfilled. He speaks and things change. Therefore, we speak what we know to be true. We believe He is good, we believe He is moving, and we believe for more!!!
