God has called us on a huge adventure together! He is catching us up in His mission to Vancouver and beyond, calling us to build His city (the church) here, so that His Kingdom may advance throughout the region.
Nehemiah chose to devote his resources to the building and establishing of God’s city rather than to his own comfort, and Scripture sets him up as an example for us all. Jesus taught us to store up treasure in heaven, investing our resources in that which is of eternal value.
On Sunday 21 Oct we are holding our first Trinity Central Gift Day, an opportunity for us to own God’s mission among us and to respond to His call with our resources. It’s a day for us as a community to respond to God’s generosity toward us, and to say ‘we’re in!’
The Old Testament teaches a pattern of giving based on tithing (giving a tenth), a regular giving of the first fruits of our labor, and occasional offerings which were often associated with the feasts. This giving supported the ministry of Temple, the administration of the community, and the needs among them. The New Testament encourages us to go beyond this: to give generously, to give hilariously, to give with faith, and to excel in the grace of giving.
We, as a church, want to be a generous community, owning the mission that God has called us to and being an ‘above and beyond’ people.
I’d love to encourage you to be before God over these next two weeks, asking Him to challenge and stretch your faith for giving, and to come and join us as we give with joyful hearts.
There are some enormous challenges ahead of us: seeing friends and colleagues come to faith on the Alpha course over the next year, venue costs as we continue to grow, developing leadership, purchasing audio equipment for our growing Sunday meetings, developing ministry among us, and other costs. But we are in the hands of a faithful and generous God, and we have confidence that He will supply all our needs in the season ahead!
If Trinity Central is the community of faith that you belong to, then come on an adventure of generosity with us! Let’s respond to God’s generosity in sending His Son for us with giving our time, energy and finance back to Him!
What an exciting season!
