We asked Jeremy Little, of Christ Central Toronto, if he would write a guest post for us, updating us on the church plant into Toronto. Here’s what he has to say:
Homes rented, boxes unpacked, kids settled into school and families and individuals gathering as Christ Central Toronto!
It’s been an exciting summer as we’ve moved our core families to the city and begun building relationship in this new community that God is building in Toronto.
THIS SUMMER
We spent the summer really focusing on relationship and discovering the city. Many days spent at parks, enjoying meals at each others homes late into the night and hearing the faith building stories of how God has brought us all together! I’m increasingly challenged by the people that have sold properties on large lots with loads of space to rent apartments and down size; some would see as taking big steps backwards. But their hearts are for God’s kingdom and seeing His glory made known through the local church and through this new church plant in Toronto.
FROM WHY TO WHAT
For the last year we got the opportunity to share in many churches and have conversations with people and answered the WHY of this new church plant. Sharing why Toronto needs another church and why Toronto needs another New Frontiers church and why Toronto needs our church. But in this last month we have changed gears and have begun answering the question of what? What is this new church going to look, smell and feel like? In answering those questions we have started to lay the foundations of Christ Central Toronto.
WEEKLY GATHERING
For the past month we have been gathering in the Little’s home, 12-13 adults and 9 kids, for worship, prayer and looking at the What of Christ Central. Right now we are working through the foundation of Word and Spirit, unpacking what we believe about truth – the truth that is first Christ Himself, the truth found in the gospel and His Word of truth. We’ve been capitalizing on praying and prophesying in accordance with the truth and have seen our prayers prayed with more passion and folks stepping out in prophesying! We are in great expectation of God’s presence as we dig into the truth and find it to go hand and hand with the Spirit, teaching into and stepping into being a church full of the Spirit!
ON MISSION
One of the big thrusts since the beginning has been building a church that in its DNA is made up of people joining Jesus on mission. It’s been so encouraging to see doors open and relationships take shape with our neighbours, people at the shops and where we work out. We are convinced that there are many earmarked by God in this city for the gospel and for Christ Central Toronto! A big part of what we do is creating environments like BBQs, meals, and fun to connect with those that might see themselves as far from God. We are believing that God will bring many from the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of His great light!
PRAY
We are past the conception stage and have begin to grow little by little. We would so covet your prayers as we continue to build with the people God has brought together.
- Pray that God would continue to build team, that while we are praying for great salvation stories we are also praying that God would bring along pillars, mature in the faith and ready to go for it!
- Pray that God would prepare the soil, that He would go before us and ready hearts for the good news of the Gospel and that hearts would be forever transformed by His great grace!
- Pray that as we begin to unpack being a church of both Word and Spirit that people would encounter God as they never have before and that others would be filled afresh with His Spirit!
